Just started watching your videos, thank you very much for the information about how to care for the chicks. I learned things that I didn't know and am looking forward to the next video. Once again, thank you for taking the time to make these videos available.
@cRaZyMeLoNz How high you want the lamp depends on the air temp & the wattage of your bulb. You want the air temp around the chicks about 95 degrees the first week then raise the lamp or give them more air flow to lower the air temp about 5 degrees each week. After about 6 weeks, they no longer need any additional help with heat
@Teddybearcop48 Feed stores have them, there are many online hatcheries or you can even check craigslist. Where I am there are tons of people who raise chickens.
DE only works if it is continuously in their diet. It does not work if you just use it a couple of times & then stop. What you had in your hand was not pure DE. Food grade DE is off white. What was it you had?
@diontoldme We have orders of 25- 50 all the time. The brooder accommodations depend on where you live. For the first 2 weeks, it is fine in the house, but then they start to get real big & stinky fast. If you have a shed or garage, a heat lamp would be enough for them.
Another good video, thanks. I didn't realize how fast chicks grew! I'm going to have to rethink my chicken adventure. The mail order sources have a minimum order of 25, and I really only need 12 but they can't ship 12 because there won't be enough warmth. I'm not sure how I'll be able to contain 25 chicks indoors for six weeks!!!
@diontoldme Meyer Hatchery and My Pet Chicken.com sell a minimum of 3 chicks.
