To ensure they have adequate training to be able to deploy on operations, a group of Territorial Army soldiers from 103 Regiment Royal Artillery have been experiencing live firing using powerful 105mm Light Guns at a facility in Northumberland. The TA unit deployed to Otterburn Training Area, the largest in Northern England, for a two week intensive course working with the 105mm Light Guns, which weigh two tonnes and are operated by a crew of six. They can be carried around the battlefield by a medium-sized vehicle, or by Puma or Chinook helicopters, and fire shells to distances of up to 17.2 kilometres.
