I don't own this song!

The song is about Aleister Crowley, a British practitioner of Black Magic , known as the Wickedest Man Alive, Jimmy Page designed some of the Led Zeppelin album art after his work.

Ozzy pronounces Crowley's name wrong in the song ("Crow" is supposed to be pronounced like the bird)

"Wont you ride my white horse" is a drug, not a sex reference ;)

When Crowley was born he had a birthmark shaped like a swastika (Hence the line "They scattered the afterbirth")

Osbourne's album: Diary of a Madman was titled after Crowley's autobiography. (However for anyone who doesn't know this song is on Blizzard of Ozz)

Ozzy dedicated the album to Aleister Crowley, claiming that through him, he "Really learned to believe in the devil." Ozzy often played up his Satanic image for effect.

Crowley was also the topic of Bruce Dickinson's song Accident of Birth.

Mr. Crowley, what went down in your head
(Oh) Mr. Crowley, did you talk to the dead
Your lifestyle to me seemed so tragic
With the thrill of it all
You fooled all those people with magic
(Yeah)You waited on Satan's call

Mr. Charming, did you think you were pure
Mr. Alarming, in nocturnal rapport
Uncovering things that were sacred, manifest on this earth
(Oh)Conceived in the eye of a secret
Yeah, they scattered the afterbirth

Solo

Mr. Crowley, won't you ride my white horse?
Mr. Crowley, it's symbolic of course
Approaching a time that is classic
I hear that maidens call
Approaching a time that is drastic
Standing with their backs to the wall

(Solo)

Was it polemically sent?
I wanna know what you meant
I wanna know
I wanna know what you meant, yeah!

(Solo)

  • My friends always sing this to me because my surname is Crowley. It's getting quite old, my friend literally just rang me up to sing it to me and this is like 6 years it's been going on. I'd love this song otherwise.

    T.'.

  • Aleister Crowley created the following verse:

    My friends call me Crowley

    because they think I'm holy.

    My enemies call me Crowley

because they wish to treat me foully.

In that respect, and considering the song is a homage to AC, then Ozzy Osbourne was incorrect.

It is a very common Irish name and I can tell you, on good authority, that it is indeed pronounced Crow as in the bird.

  • bagui chato q poha

  • @Gregwuzhere Turn yur caps lock off spaz

  • "Crowley" wasn't pronounced incorrectly, it's actually the "official" pronunciation of ow, crow is just one of the many grammar anomaly's in the English language
