Summary

Permaculture is about designing ecological human habitats and food production systems. It is a land use and community building movement which strives for the harmonious integration of human dwellings, microclimate, annual and perennial plants, animals, soils, and water into stable, productive communities. The focus is not on these elements themselves, but rather on the relationships created among them by the way we place them in the landscape. This synergy is further enhanced by mimicking patterns found in nature.

Permaculture design works toward creating a truly sustainable way of living that continues into the future indefinitely. Initially based on designing permanent food production systems, permaculture has become a lifestyle in which people create human habitats that interact with nature for mutual benefit. By studying this philosophy, people learn to observe nature and replicate its innate intelligence to use our resources efficiently so that nothing is ever wasted and everything can be recycled.

At Permaculture University:

Our students will be taught by certified permaculture and sustainability experts. Students will learn how to create low maintenance micro eco-systems. These beautiful eco-systems will produce food while enhancing the animal habitat and the water supply.

A normal day at Permaculture University Costa Rica:

Wake up to the sounds of Monkeys, Toucans and Scarlet Macaws,

Take a nature walk to pick some fresh fruit from our acres of fruit trees.

Enjoy an open air Yoga or Qigong class

Breakfast

Class starts at 8:30 am, instruction then out in the field

Lunch

Class, indoors

Watch the sunset into the pacific while having a beverage

Dinner

Nightly events and games and optional Spanish classes

I believe that people hide behind certifications to create a corner on a market. This is information and learning that should be open to all and in the public domain. The earth is at a critical point, and we worry about certifications? Really??

There's no trademark on the name Permaculture (look it up), and a PDC stands for Permaculture Design Course. Course! not Certification.

Learn everyone! Just learn and change the world!
