  • evryone in the back ground looks so excited!!

  • Those guys? Extras the production company sent over...the real woodworkers are behind me in the vid...barely keeping their excitement under control.

  • interesting technique!, I'm gonne try this at home for sure, at school I only learned the old fashon way by using a waterstone. I never saw the tool before you used for holding your chisel. If I can't find one in a local hardware store nearby do you think is doable without one and just hold the chisel in position by hand?

greetings from holland, nice informing demo!

  • Any honing jig should work just fine, or hand-held should be fine. If you find you need the jig, I think it's available from several European vendors, including Axminster (check for Item Number 340147). In the US, Woodcraft, Tooldsfor Working Wood, and most other woodworking suppliers carry this jig. Godd luck!

  • Good stuff, thanks

  • Thanks for the information - every little helps!

  • The DuoSharp I'm using has been in service for at least 8 years...think I bought it right after the larger sizes came out. Still cuts well, and because I use it both for leveling waterstones and for honing, the perforated plate design of the DuoSharp works better than the straight DiaSharp.

  • Mr MD, I was wondering how long

does the diamond plate last if you would

only use them for flattening waterstones as an hobby woodworker.

    I use NANIWA 800,3000 and 8000 stones

for sharpening. I hate flattening the stones and the diamond plates look like an easy(but expensive) waty to do this.

I read on the DMT site that they recommend the diasharp XX coarse plate

for flattening waterstones. You sir were using duosharp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Good to see things worked for you - stropping is definitely something I do with knives, but not with chisels or plane blades as it dubs over the edge (good for knife, though).

  • Thank you MD. I set up the sandpaper just as you did except on a larger peice of glass. 600, 1000, 1500, 2000 and was told by a automechanic that if I was to rub the sandpaper together, I could turn the 2000 grit into 4000 grit. I strop the knives back and forth as you taught to achieve a bevel. When I finished the knives slice through paper and takes hair off the arms as well as any knife I've ever seen. I sttropped on a old leather belt with white jewlers rouge. I see why its scary.thxs
