Who is Philip Wollen? (Find out more via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_W...

"Philip was vice president of Citibank, specialising in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions.

At age 34, he was rated by Australian Business Magazine in their Top 40 Australian head-hunted executives. At age 40, he witnessed cruelty on such a colossal scale that it affected him profoundly. He decided to give away everything he owned with warm hands, and die broke. 'And so far, we are right on budget,' he jokes.

Today he devotes his life to children, animals, the environment, the terminally ill, the homeless and the arts. He supports over 500 humanitarian projects in over 40 countries with schools, orphanages, shelters, sanctuaries, clinics, and scholarships.

In 2005 he received the Order of Australia. In 2007 he was Australian of the Year, Victoria. The Australia Day Council said of him, 'Essentially a private man, Philip Wollen seeks no personal publicity but is not afraid to step into the limelight for a just cause.' "

This is an incredibly moving speech. It goes to the very heart of what it means to be a moral and compassionate human being.

There are places on earth (dry ones) where meat is an important and necessary way to produce food. Most vegetarians don't want to ban meat for other people.

Vegetarians don't want to listen, you say? Listen to what? "I eat meat because I love it"? Well, sorry but that's a completely immature way of thinking.

    And I'm not a vegetarian.

Hey, I eat meat. He made fairly good points, I will admit. But just because vegans/vegetarians want the meat gone, NO people should be allowed to eat meat? There are some people who love meat, some people who like meat, others who eat it every now and then (like me.). This is a one-sided subject since vegetarians don't want to listen to the side of the meat-eaters.

Wonderful speech and right on. Meat is murder. Turn your life to love by turning away from meat.

I do agree that he made a couple fair points, but first of all how far do we go? A molecule can excist because he eats the elektron of another molecule. We can excist because we consume death organims, water, oxigen. Did you know that plants also communicate? When a plant gets killed he communicates with the plants around him wich will trigger allot of chemical processes.

Still also i think less meat, no gov. subsides for meatindustry.

What an incredibly moving speech. He said exactly what I think, only he has a much better way of saying it :-) I only wish there were more compassionate, wise and 'aware' human beings on this planet and far fewer imbeciles, many of whom who have made themselves known in rather inarticulate and unsubstantiated comments. Keep pulling the wool over your eyes...
