This is the original promo for The Wild Bunch Crew. The video, cut by Steve Haley, with several scenes shot by Julian Monaghan, shines a light on the vibrant early hip-hop scene in Bristol and features many of the city's unsung heroes, without whom their would never have been a 'Bristol Sound'. Also featured are the Krew B-Boys from London on a rare early trip west.
'I put the video together in 1985 at the request of Nellie Hooper, who realised even then the potential of what was starting to happen in Bristol. The video helped to secure a trip for TWB to Japan which arguably marked both the start of their individual international careers and the begining of the end for the crew. At this time they were still a chaotic DJ crew and did not release their own tunes until the Friends and Countrymen E.P. in 1988, by which time the crew were already in the terminal meltdown which led to the transformation of Soul to Soul and the formation of Massive Attack.' • Anyone go to the legendary Red house wharehouse jam

Wild bunch V Krew. Both sets were incredible but the London boys mashed up the mic Drew and them. Plaus those bboys were a bit ahead of my Bristol mob.Nothing but good vibes though.Newtra had the best hip hop selection in the Uk at that time according to Milo.

  • Yeh, I went to the Red House that night. Great sound clash, maybe Nutrament slightly had the edge, but he had more experience at that stage. I remember him comin back from NYC around 81/82 and visitin Bristol with the first proper ghetto blaster we'd seen

  • dirt vid! glad it's finally up, I remember you showing me this vid a few year ago (oop shhshh)
