@KDFrieds No one worth listening to shows off. Jazz is a very independent art form, its all about enriching your own life and its really a form of meditation for the player, the audience is along for the ride and the moment you start thinking about impressing anyone in the audience is when you start sounding like total shit.

Brings back memories of my jazz combo days in Tuscaloosa, AL. I wonder how many combo gigs I played over the course of those 5 1/2 years. I knew almost nothing about jazz after graduating high school. I could swing (drums) which is a must. I learned the rest by playing those gigs. The horn players played from the Big Book & if I didn't know the tune they would just tell me what style & what tempo. After a few gigs they didn't have to tell me anything except the song title. Real music education!

@detectmendacity there's this double bassist called Richard Sadler who plays in a trio I saw somewhere sometime blah blah blah doesn't matter- but the point is there's a great bass and vocals version. Or at least I really like it and I hope you do too.
myspace com/rmsadler only place I've ever seen it. Back in '07 when people still used the thing and it's still there :)

My favorite tempo for this tune, nice and laid back, but "Solar" is my favorite Davis composition, either playing or listening.

completely unaware of this version; is this available on cd? Under what title?
love the relaxed tempo, horace silver and art blakey.
This is my fav miles tune, listen to the coltrane/garland version with their wonderful solos all the time.
thx so much for putting this out there!
Ooh so good.
I've read that Anita O'Day used to cover this -- anyone know if it's on You Tube? Tried searching to no avail. I'd like to hear it. :(
