it's just a simple fuel volume burned vs. miles traveled average. if you fill up your 10 gallon tank, drive 50 miles, use 2 gallons of gas, and burn the rest of the tank at idle...overall, your car used 10 gallons and traveled only 50 miles. that would average 5 mpg overall for that tank of gas. Now, if you were to fill up, drive home, reset the mpg calculator, and run the whole tank while idling, your car didn't move at all, and would then read 0mpg. it's an average mpg, not at that moment.

because even at stop your engine is still turning, thats why it still calculates the distance/gallon of gas.

lol... its going to drop if you are just sitting there burning fuel!! You have to move the car to gain miles! You burn fuel at a stop ... and if your not moving... your not getting any miles...
-
it's an average mpg, not current or live.
you are a tool

I have a forester and if you reset your odo. lets say a day after you fill up or before you drive all highway you will achive better MPG on the computer..I got 34 one day on highway, but i reset on the highway 2 miles away from my destination..

well thats odd of course you should be using gas but the mileage should be going up not down
You loosing mpg because your not moving. If all you did was idle your go would read 0mpg because duh your wasting gas by not driving.

thats not what I meant, I meant why would it showing "T.I." (in bmw terms) signal during while in a dead stop
even thought "T.I." signal (in bmw terms) means fuel consumtion but other subies mpg guage goes to "----" at dead stop
