Dame Joan's farewell at ROH Covent Garden with Pavarotti and Horne some 20 years ago. It's impossible to believe the world lost this exceptional artist and woman a year ago today.

Rest in peace La Stupenda, aka the Voice of the Century (or in my opinion, the greatest voice of all time)!!!!

  • who is conducting???

  • @fludu1 Maestro Bonynge of course :)

  • Sutherland looks and sounds absolutely gorgeous here. Such a shame that most modern sopranos at 30 can't sing the coloratura passes in the Semiramide duet as well as she does here at 63. :( I miss the good ol' days ... even though I was born two years after Joan retired. Haha.

  • @ChrisStockslager OMG same - go us folks born in '93...perhaps we can change things.

  • @emma41093 And invent a time machine?

  • @ChrisStockslager Well given the possibility that some particles can travel faster than the speed of light I am hopeful :) lol

  • @Caskader superb everything....but makes me laugh that gown...looks like a cabbage:))))

  • @wotan10950 you do not get voices of this caliber anymore

  • @LaBartoliLover don't leave me out!

  • Astonishing. A woman in her 60s can still sing with such agility and panache. The Semiramide duet with Marilyn Horne seems like it's from two women half their age.

  • @ChrisStockslager Most people are well past there "singing prime" by 63, Then again 30 year olds still have a way to go yet. The voice changes constantly in life. Getting old does not necessarily mean getting worse. Different, different tone, different strengths ans weaknesses. Good health keeps the voice in good shape for a long time. But the changes of age should not be considered as all bad. It has been said that voices age like wine.

  • Love the diva moment when Pav beats the drum. "Stop it."

  • Que suerte haber conocido y haber escuchado a LA MAS GRANDE SOPRANO DEL SIGLO

Cantando casi HASTA LOS 70 AÑOS!!!! Asi son Las Mas Grandes!!!!

  • 40:48 ... really nice lday... thanks...

  • Magnificent! They were soooo gorgeous; such a loss...
