There are several dubbed-into-German versions of this Pope Joan trailer circulating on YouTube, some with very bad subtitles. This dubbed version was for German audiences only. In fact, the movie is in English (as the presence of John Goodman, David Wenham, and Iain Glen proves.) So here's the REAL version of the Pope Joan movie trailer, as originally filmed.
(Note: It's impossible to duplicate the fine quality of the film here, so it looks a bit fuzzy. But it's enough to give you a "sense of the film" and the fine acting, direction, and cinematography involved. I'm the author of the novel upon which the film is based, and I love this movie--and how often do you hear an author say that?)
@rossandmargie actually there´s lots of evidence that it IS true. it probaby didn´t happen exactly like it did in the book, but the main points (her giving birth to a child in the street, her being the pope) can be found in old documents. (i.e.: there´s a documents that mentiones the streets not being used anymore for a certain festival because of that female pope who gave birth to a child there.) one can´t be a 100% sure of course, but neither can you say the opposite.

I guess no one could be sure if there really was a Pope Joan or not...but I read the book and it is in my top 4 list of recommendations. Just the simple fact that she wanted to learn and was unable to (not acceptable at the time) gives me reason to see how such a thing could happen. Thank you for a FABULOUS book! Would LOVE to see the movie!

I first heard of Pope Joan when I read Caryl Churchill's play Top Girls. Didn't even know about the book until a few months later. True or not (though I enjoy believing it is) it absolutely became one of my favorite books and I recommend it to anyone interested in female empowerment. Can't wait to see this!

Thanks,Grammaforpeace, for the kind words about my novel. Sorry you got that hateful response--evidently from someone who hasn't read my novel. For it's NOT anti-Catholic. Its theme is female empowerment through learning-- in a time when it was believed that women should not be educated. Would the person who responded to you be equally angry about a book/movie about King Arthur? If not, then ask yourself: what is it about Joan's story that is still so threatening--over 1,000 years later?

@grammaforpeace Pope Joan is a medieval fairy tale. Only a fool believes this garbage, because there is not one shred of existing evidence that can prove that an actual female Pope ever reigned during any of the dates as suggested. This nonsense was simply an anti-papal fable made up by Catholic-bashers and continues to be propagated by liberal feminist.

As far as i know "Pope Joan" IS a german film. the main actress is german, but luckily most of the other actors is english (I´m not a big fan of german actors, but the ones in here are great ^^). It was a production of Constantin Films wich is German. I don´t like the german dub though, so I´m happy you uploaded the english trailer^^
