Elvis Presley Solitaire
Written by Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody. Elvis recorded it the night of February 3-4, 1976 at Graceland. The single release had a 12-week stay on the country chart, reaching a high of #10. It was the B-side to Are You Sincere. It is available on Always on My Mind LP, From Elvis Presley Boulevard, Memphis, Tennessee, Moody Blue, and Forgotten Songs of the 70s, which is where this version is from.

There was a man, a lonely man
Who lost his love, thru his indifference
A heart that cared that went unshared
Until it died within his silence

And solitaire is the only game in town
And every road that takes him, takes him down
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing solitaire

And keeping to himself, begins to deal
And still the king of hearts is well concealed
Another losing games comes to an end
And deals them out again

A little hope goes up in smoke
Just how it goes, goes without saying
There was a man, a lonely man
Who would command the hand he's playing

And solitaire is the only game in town
And every road that takes him, takes him down
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing solitaire

And keeping to himself, begins to deal
And still the king of hearts is well concealed
Another losing games comes to an end
And deals them out again

And solitaire is the only game in town
And every road that takes him, takes him down
While life goes on around him everywhere
He's playing solitaire

  • wow wow wow fantastic!!!!

  • the best song

  • As much as I listen and love other music, Elvis hits the inner core of how I feel. Truly someone who cannot be matched in making everyone who loves him feel this connection that others who don't, will never understand and appreciate.

  • The great, unsurpassed actor!

  • Thanks, super song, and nicely put together.

  • I'm always amazed by his voice; its strength is mixed with sorrows & sadness, who knows what pains he was going through when he sang that song! Even when he was in pain, he was great!

  • truly a great song and if you know what it means you can as I do you can feel it

  • Great video and such a great song too. Great upload.

  • He is singing his solitude sorounded by his entourage but still solitaire , not understood!

    Great song!

  • Beautiful Jackie 5*****
