This is part 5 of the Free Hand Mehndi How to Mix Henna series. Part 5 is the last part of this series. Future series on henna related topics and application coming soon.

Here are some common questions and answers, along with tips and tricks I find handy-

Tip: Before you apply henna, it is a good idea to have the following items within your reach- paper towel, tooth pick, q tip or cotton swab.

Question: Should I use fresh lemon juice, or is lemon juice from the store ok? Also, does it have to be hot, room temp, or is cold ok?

Answer: I have used both fresh and bottled lemon juice, and have not noticed a difference in stain quality. I also have used cold and hot lemon juice, and also have not seen a difference in stain quality. Either is fine.

Question: What is Black Henna?

Answer: Black henna is a very dangerous product. It contains toxic ingredients that burn and damage the skin. Stay far away from anyone selling or applying black henna.

Tip: Before applying henna to skin, make sure the skin is clean from lotions, oil, and dirt. The skin should be washed using non moisturizing soap. You can also clean the skin with an alcohol wipe.

Question: What other liquids can I mix with my henna powder?

Answer: Coffee, Black Tea, and Lime Juice. You can also use hot water, but the stain quality is much better with an acidic liquid.

Question: How long should I store my henna paste?

Answer: Once mixed, I typically store my henna paste in the freezer no longer than 3 months. Old henna paste can be used to stain the finger nails, or for art projects on unfinished wood.
