  • Nice explanation. I've been using the driveimagexml/BartPE combination for years and I think it generally doesn't get the credit that it deserves. Two points of criticism (on your video that is): too long. holding the reader by the hand while finding and downloading the programs you need... a bit tedious. Two: the viewer might get the false impression that BartPE is needed for making a backup. Not true. You will only need it in case of a HD failure and you need to restore.

  • @mgrootsch

    1) too slow: this was one of my first videos, and I've got a little better, but what are you gonna get or free

    2) not really getting your second point, all I can say is that was a demo of using bartPE with a plug-in

  • yea, you can use this to do that, but you definitely need a windows xp disk to make it, an easier to use cloning tool, might be clonezilla that is free and you download as a bootable ISO for backups

  • I Liked how your tutorial included Bart PE setup, But one thing driveimage xml seems to be lacking is copying the MBR from the drive and setting the new drive as active!

  • @Jonroeb I pretty much use clonezilla now, but bartpe/ubcd4win comes in handy for other things. The only problem with clonezilla is that you can easily mount the image to get at a single file (you can under linux some how, but I'm still working on that)

  • @Jonroeb i should've said: you CANNOT easily mount the image to get at a single file , what a difference 3 letters make

  • I used this to backup my hd on laptop-- went in for service- now when I open the .xml file -- the drivexml program crashes (not responding)-- this backup is a 178 gb-- is there anything that I can do differently to restore my backup??

  • GREAT TUTORIAL!!! but i am not sure if this is what i should be looking for. after instaling my OS, drivers and programs and setting up my laptop to the way i want it basically what i what to do is make a copy of my c drive, burn to a disk or disks so in the event of a virus attack or hardware failure i can put in my disks and reinstall on to another hard drive. is this tutorial for me or do i need to keep looking? before you ask i did not get any disks with this laptop

  • thanks a lot man!
