This 1914 Nickelodeon Violano Virtuoso machine is being tested while serviced. It resides at the Seneca County Museum in Tiffin, Ohio and is on display. It was being serviced by www.putschracing.com . NOTE: The "A" string was not making sound in this video as the bow reels where not yet conditioned, and mind you the violin was not yet tuned. Keep your antiques running and playing. It is the best thing for them and all the people that deserve an opportunity to enjoy our artifacts from the past! Contact www.putschracing.com for automotive and antique restoration.

  • I'll take the video after it is done next time.....

  • Indeed, vibrato is caused by the tailpiece "wobbling" One trouble with this was that the clip is missing that secures the rosin to the bracket. I will make a new one and I am sure it will play better when the reels can rosin themselves better.

  • There's one of those in maine

  • An amazing contrivance! Thanks for this video.

  • Sir, you need to tune that violin! My ears are bleeding. For the most part the piano is tuned, but some strings are just a bit out.

  • tune that thing or die!!! LOL

I tuned and repaired stuff like this for 30 years

also look up San Sylmar museum of Merle Norman....awesome collection of the best of these playing machines, orchestron ect..

plus an amazing collection of cars, hood ornements and its FREE.

  • I was trying to work out how it was applying vibrato to the violin, as it can't really roll its "fingers" backwards and forwards, then I saw that the tailpiece was wobbling - maybe that's it?

The bow reels are reminiscent of the mechanism in a hurdy gurdy, which is interesting.

I wonder how good it would sound after a tune, and with the A string on the violin working?

Apparently the House on the Rock in Wisconsin has rooms full of automated instruments like this - such a shame I'm in the UK!
