Depends what you mean by "Greek". There was no Greek nation at that point. Only city-states like Athens and Sparta that were nations of their own. But they all spoke the same language, ancient Greek. There were of course several different dialects and the ancient macedonians did not speak greek from the start. They addopted it later and the language they spoke before that was called ancient macedonian which was nothing to do with the language they speak in FYROM now.

Macedonia was a region of this federation called "greece" and during the time of Alexander, this region Macedonia was the dominant power of the federation.
