One nice thing this game (along with Karateka) did was try to realistically emulate karate. No one else has tried to do that since Yie Ar Kung Fu, and later Street Fighter, introduced the concept of knockout fighting.

i mistook this game for something else too and got it for $3 a while back. well i guess it just another game to scratch off my list.

Yeah. I remember renting this game one weekend and it was a total waste.

@newaxelman no that's not it. this is it, though i don't hear the judge saying anything, just a bubble with words, /watch?v=2JhZrcjY_VQ
a shame because this game was fucking amazing in the arcade along with the original punch out(pre that faggot mike tyson).

can someone help me? there was an arcade game that was cooler than all of this and perhaps came out at the same year or earlier and the asian judge would say FULL POINT!. when you got a hit or a win.
anyone know it?

I actually beaten the exact same game you've reviewed, Dommiesan, and I actually quite enjoyed it. Sure, the graphics are pure dog crap and there's virtually no music at all, the main factor is that I really enjoyed, as it provided me with challenging gameplay and the ability to experiment with difference control combinations to perform advanced moves like the forward jump and the reverse punch.
I think that on other systems this games was released as International Karate.

International Karate was actually a different game by a different publisher. The game was similar enough to Karate Champ that Data East filed a lawsuit. They ultimately lost though - a judge decided it was similar, but not identical and that Data East couldn't hold the rights to the video game version of an entire sport.
