For the first time March is in whole Europe the colon cancer month.

With a better screening the chances of survival would increase. Especially persons with family antecedents have to get themselves examined on a regular basis.

A screening campaign will be organized in the Flemish speaking part of the country and in other European countries for persons between 50 and 75 years old.

The testimony of a patient from the University Hospital in Leuven (Gasthuisberg):

- waited too long, ignored the symptoms for a too long time, thought this couldn't happen to him

- 18 months after the treatment he climbed the Mont-Ventoux by bike and he's training for the post cancer marathon.

- Regrets that he didn't react earlier and is aware that he "had a narrow escape"
