Rolling off the Settle/Carlisle line, USA is seen here on the Whalley Viaduct and at an unusual location, Cherry tree Station, just south of Blackburn, Lancashire, England, where its watered from a hydrant on the bridge above.

  • the A4 loco, Supermarine Spitfire, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Range Rover, everything the Brits make are beautiful!

  • @rcfp2006 Well I cant disagree with you having owned a Jag many years ago The only trouble with it was, it would pass anything on the road but a petrol station. LoL.

You might like to take a look at 'Sir Nigel's Big day' On my channel. It gives a very close-up view of this A4 loco with its curious but distinctive 3 cylinder beat. The 'Gresley' beat. sometimes likened to an asthmatic kettle drum.

    Hugh

  • Very enjoyable footage. Nice work

  • Thanks Gordon1066. There are a couple more vids of A4's elsewhere on my channel. Hope you enjoy.

    Hugh.

  • Is this engine the same class as the "Mallard"?

  • It most certainly is michigandon. It took over a train at Edinburgh, coming up from London this week, took it on to Perth where it was doubleheaded with a Black 5 for the journey to Inverness.

  • Hey it's Spencer the silver engine!

  • "I read the news today oh boy, ten thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire"

I don't know about holes, but thats one damn fine loco there.

  • free black ops lobbys + mw2 lobbys here /watch?v=NQtYkMzuGtg

  • Valves lifting? Must be a Stratford fireman, Donnie men wouldn't waste the coal!

  • I wonder what the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust would do if prompted to make an A4 :3

  • @prkrmk haha - i'm looking forward to showing my 4yo this video for that very reason!

  • I wonder if they would ever do a locomotive exchange. I suppose not, but I live near Cheyenne WY where the UP 844 runs and I would love to see an A4 running on straight, slightly sloped downhill grade. She could really open up then. I am a steam nut, so this is really cool.

  • Very good video. Whalley is a great place to see them, albeit at a leisurely pace over the viaduct! The A4s really are the business end of high speed steam locos though and USA certainly does not disappoint when giving it some on the mainline. Not sure what the poster before me is referring to?? Regards Dave

  • just awesome... this steam at the end... great.
