passengers wrestled down ABDUL MUTALLAB (with reported ties to Al Qaeda) after trying to ignite an explosive substance aboard a Detroit-bound flight
As President Barack Obama vacations in Hawaii, officials say he's keeping up to date on what's described as a terror attempt on board a Delta Airlines plane that was about to land in Detroit.
A Nigerian man was detained on the flight from Amsterdam Friday after he attempted to detonate an explosive device during landing.
The White House says Obama was notified about the incident and discussed it with security officials.
The White House is coordinating briefings for the president through the Homeland Security Department, the Transportation Security Administration and the FBI.
The suspect, identified by Rep Peter King, (R-N.Y.) as Abdul Mudallad, a 23-year-old Nigerian man known in counter-terror circles, told investigators he was acting on behalf of Al Qaeda.
Deputy White House Press Secretary Bill Burton released a statement following the incident Friday.
The President was notified of the incident this morning between 9:00 and 9:30 Hawaii time by the President's military aide. The President subsequently convened a secure conference call with John Brennan, his Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism Adviser, and Denis McDonough, NSS Chief of Staff.
He asked to arrange a subsequent secure call and in that call instructed that all appropriate measures be taken to increase security for air travel. The President is actively monitoring the situation and receiving regular updates. There is currently no change to his schedule.
The attempted attack followed the release of a video from the Taliban showing Private First Calss Bowe Bergdahl, the only known American soldier in captivity.
The Department of Homeland Security said Friday that Secretary Janet Napolitano is monitoring the situation closely.
Sources confirmed to Fox News that the terror alert levels for international and domestic flights remains at orange.
It's amazing that this is the first time since 9/11 we were caught off guard. It shows we're making the same mistakes we made before 9/11.

exactly.
Don't you think that terrorists know that we drop our guard down when our little old grannies in a shawl walks up to a security check to pass through?
Drug runners have known this for years and they specifically plant drug packages inside motor homes and RV's driven by innocent people in their 70's and 80's.
This is why they ask you at the airport if you were given any packages by someone you didn't know, to be brought into the country.

exactly correct. A plant from the inside to make people more afraid so that we will ask for more liberty threatening security measures sothat the CIA and the FBI can monitor our conversations "legally' . As opposed to the way that they are doing it now, without authorization.

I can walk into a Staples store and walk out with 10 brain piercing, innocuous looking, ordinary pieces of wood with a graphite mixture inside of them that can kill faster than a speeding bullet for the low cost of $1.00.
You don't need a Rambo type knife to kill someone, just a box cutter with a razor-sharp blade and apply it to the victims femoral artery and cut it.
He or she will bleed out in a matter of a few minutes.
Just my humble opinion and nothing more.

And it really worked well for Abraham Lincoln, didn't it?
Talk about security incompetence.
How did Booth even get behind Lincoln in the first place?
how did he get past the 'guards" at the door to Lincoln's box?
You cannot make anything totally secure, especially today with ceramic guns and knives and letter bombs, remote controlled detonators, drone aircraft laden with explosives, umbrellas with poison balls in them, high power lasers, collapsible batons, and the everyday ordinary 2H pencil.

there is no practical reason to even fly on a plane today.
We have video link-ups and conference calling with video feeds.
Only criminals need to meet face to face to choreograph their nefarious deeds together.
Stay at home. Avoid the airport. Live longer.
