I left my hometown long ago
Ive had so many visions of gold

My eyes have seen so many things

That Im ready for what tomorrow brings

Did I tell you that tomorrow I will leave again

Did I tell you that tomorrow I must leave again

I pass by fields of waving grain

And I see those visions once again

Though tomorrow seems so far away

I believe in living life today

Did I tell you that tomorrow I will leave again

Did I tell you that tomorrow I must leave again

I left my hometown long ago

I left one day on a lonesome road

I left my loved ones far behind

But now the futures on my mind

Did I tell you that tomorrow I will leave again

Did I tell you that tomorrow I must leave again

I left my hometown long ago

Background

I found this song in the archives from many, many years ago. I was 16 years old when I wrote about leaving home. In fact, less than a month after I wrote it, I did take a little cross country trip with two friends and my younger brother, in my friend Roy Bentley's 1964 Ford Galaxie. I had read in the newspaper about a commune in Taos, New Mexico, and on a Monday night after school we were on the road to New Mexico. Needless to say, it was the high point of my high school days. Perhaps in a future video I will tell the rest of the story.

Be sure to see Roy Bentley's poem 'Halves', which recounts the journey we made so many years ago:
