The gas pipe that runs through Iran's Makoo city on its way to Turkey was blown up on the 29th of July. The attack on the gas pipe created a raging inferno in the dessert, brought life to a standstill, and caused extensive damage.
In these parts people are not unfamiliar with such attacks. Every day people here, along Iran's north western border, are threatened with a constant menace. PJAK, an offshoot of the more commonly known terrorist group the Kurdish Workers Party or the PKK. In view of numerous PJAK attacks on Iran's border cities and the death of scores of civilians, Iran has had no choice but to take the fight to the enemy. The conflict is ongoing, and Iran's security forces are constantly on high alert.
