  • Dubček's mistake (or a deliberate omission) was to go too far and too fast, thus making the hard-liners panic and giving the USSR a cause to intervene. His carelessness and reluctance to test the waters before starting any reforms was the main reason of what happened in 1968. The world was on the brink of the Third World War and the ČSSR was in the middle of the defensive line of the Warsaw Pact; under these circumstances it was at least unwise to play on the nerves of the Soviet leadership.

  • @BabylonianSage - ok, ale to Rusáky neomlouvá, jen to vypovídá více o levicovém charakteru... ok, but the Russians excuse, it just says more about the left-wing character.

  • I'm Russian and I feel bad for all bad things that came with our communism. Yet, I want to say that Many Russians that knew the truth were shot, many went to GULAG's -millions. We suffered too. Communism, like Nazism has no nation...

Forgive us for being blind, Jagr forgave when he went to play for Omsk. Spring of 1968 showed a great example of being human! We followed it in 1991!

  • @jerseyflex238 - I forgive the great Russia, if he could renounce Communism ... Unfortunately, Putin, who is? More Stalin? And people like you are angry. I have many friends among you - I know that you have suffered more than anyone can imagine. Long live human freedom! Death of Nazism, Communism and Islam!

  • @Samantha131313 Well said, Samantha. I think it is worth noting that most Soviet officials like members of the Soviet embassy staff and those Soviets who were in Czechoslovakia in 1968 regret the invasion and consider it a mistake.
