IIRC, he's still Kawasaki testing rider, but I'm not sure if it's still the case in 2008.
He retired of Moto GP after this crash, because of a new wound. Since he started in 500cc, after his 2000 250cc World Title, he often crashed, and got injured a lot of time. He was fed to not got a great bike, and to not be fit enough to win or doing good races.
