The funny thing is, without Star Trek you wouldnt have BSG: one of the creative people on DS9 went on to work on BSG, and if you watch later seasons of DS9, you can see a HUGE amount of similarities to BSG. Don't be knockin' the predecessors. Star Trek paved the way for the sci fi shows that followed. If Next Generation wouldn't have been so hugely popular there wouldn't have been a commercial audience for Farscape, Babylon 5, the various Stargate series and yes, Battlestar Galactica.

ST:TNG was a GREAT show. To heck with anyone who knocks it. The storylines and acting were superb. All Good Things was a great Finale too

listen dude, first thing first: star trek is an overly popular show that when viewed from outside of the overly jealous fan community just ain't good. the acting was decent, yes, stories were decent as well...but compared to other shows, they AREN'T. picard is only remembered because he was in one of the first well known sci fi show. O'neill is a way better character however. star trek went downhill a long time ago, and jealous fans just won't accept that.

@Ryagful I don't understand how it's even possible to hate Star Trek. TNG, vanilla, even Enterprise. They have exceptional acting, generally decent story lines, the characters are great...Data. Picard. Kirk. Spock. McCoy. Warf. They're staples of our culture, because they were freaking awesome. Stargate never ever will be better than Star Trek. They just aren't in competition. No one will remember Jack O'neil when there's Picard to think about. Hell, I don't remember who O'neil was(Mguyver guy?)

hey you guys who argue which sci-fi is better. this is coming from someone who started to watch sci-fi recently and only recently watched all the big gamers (Farscape, Babylon 5, Stargate, Star Wars,etc): Star Wars IS THE BEST! BSG is for me to big to even put it in a goddamn list, so i'll leave it out (its THAT good!). from 1 to 5:Star Wars, Farscape, Babylon 5 and Stargate (both sg1 and atlantis). Star Trek sucks balls. its horrible. yes, i DID watched most of it, and IT SUCKED!
