Why does property tax exist? If you pay off your mortgage, but lose your job or can't work any longer...you still lose your home if you fail to pay property tax. Nobody really "owns" a home. We just rent from the government. If you can't pay, you go homeless. A sales tax only approach is the only fair method.

Property taxes are enforced to make society conform. My property taxes have tripled in the past 10 years, and my income is flat to being down. Now I work 7 days a week and barely see my kids. It takes 40 hours of work at minimum wage to pay my property taxes for one month. This may be a sign to liquidate and buy an RV or a sailboat before the inevitable happens.

I bought a house that was abandoned. The city wrote a letter thanking me. little did I know the House owed about 30,000.00 in back taxes!!! They refused to erase the taxes from a dead previous owner. So I'm giving them the house back before they take it, which is what they are threatening to do, now that the house looks good.

Dead politicians and judges don't steal your money and your lives. It is ILLEGAL to own a home anywhere in the USA that has a property tax -- that's rent - and leads to rape and girl theft for prostitution. @2826972 Very true and here it is 2010 and no president want to get rid of property why becasue it is agianst the constitution to make a state honer it. I believe fuck the constitution property tax and break it. I live in Indiana myself I wish we could kick out the property tax and fire all the mayors and city officials.
