Taking the story of Adam and Eve literally creates tremendous scientific and cultural issues for society. However, reading it is a myth allows us to find new and meaningful interpretations that can be better applied to our lives. There is much beneath the surface of this story, and that is precisely the nature of myth. By myth, I don't mean a lie, or something that's false that holds no value. Myths are stories that reveal fundamental realities and insights about human nature, as a particular society perceives them.

In this video, I attempt to give some background to the story of Adam & Eve, taking into consideration the original Hebrew as well as common themes running through the narrative. This is the first part in a two part series... or maybe three. We'll see.

I call this "gonzo academia" because there is always a chance I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm a religious studies undergrad who is very interested in this type of stuff, so maybe I'll continue to make more. Here are the sources I used for this video:

and I listen to Brent Walters just about every week on AM radio 8.10 KGO.

  • @JaylinsARTSFilms2 i get that see your not shoving it in peoples faces like whats his face farther down the page

  • @mrshank78 we all have our own reasons

  • @j919or In Genesis chapter 1, it is ELOHEEM Who is creating. However, in Genesis chapter 2, it is YHWH Who is creating. Chapter 1 uses the English word God, while chapter 2 uses Lord God. In Hebrew "God" = Eloheem, which is a plural word, and Lord God = YHWH, which is a singular word. / Common sense: Serpents don't walk and talk. The "serpet/reptilian" was here b4 Adam and Eve, walking and talking. Later, YHWH banished the reptilian to crawl on its belly.
