In this interview with Ion Media Network's "Metro Magazine," author Therese Borchard shares insights from her new book, "Beyond Blue: Surviving Depression & Anxiety and Making the Most of Bad Genes." In this interview with host Tanya Dallas-Lewis, Therese Borchard explains why it's not possible for people with depression to simply "snap out of it," and also explains how those with depression can find effective treatment for this condition.
Therese explains how her "Beyond Blue" blog on Beliefnet offers a place for those with depression to talk about what they're going through, a topic that is often impossible to discuss with friends and family. She shares her own story of coming to terms with suicidal impulses and ineffective treatment, and describes how she found the right doctor who could help her without excessive medication. Finally, Therese also fights popular misconceptions about depression that are found in the media, and explains why depression should be seen as an organic disease that should be taken seriously.
