The state of engineering design education is not good, according to author, designer, and engineer, Don Norman. Engineers are trained in narrow specialties but do not get the broad systems thinking or the appreciation of human-centered design necessary for engineering design in the 21st century.

Totally agree! First and foremost I'm a philosopher but I chose energy engineering because I think my broad range of interests can be very helpful in designing successful and, most of all, USEFUL products.
All engineers should see this video and absorb this perspective.

I find this video rather interesting... i am a new era design engineer and I have always told myself that a broad knowledge is better than a specific... becauase that broad knowledge is pretty much the key to get narrow and deep and it allows you to come in contact with the people that have the narrow and deep knowledge. Integration saves money.
