Shia vs Sunni. Why so much hate?

Why do Sunnis and Shias hate each other? Is it a rational hate? Is it out of fear? Maybe, it is because of Sadam Hussein. Did Sunni and Shia hate each other before the Iraq war???

Maybe, the Shia did something to you and now you are angry about it. Or maybe the Sunnis did something to you? What is the root cause of this problem.

Don't you think that outsiders want to take advantage of this situation? Outsiders will be able to play both sides off each other.

There is a mosque that has a Sunni administration. Both Sunni and Shia go there to pray. They don't hate on each other. They pray side by side and they respect each other. Do you think this is possible for other places in the world?

SHIAS do not hate sunnis! I am shia and I DO NOT HATE SUNNIS nor do any of the shias I know, but I have met many sunnis who call us 'non muslims', and when asked why they do not seem to have an answer! I dont like to judge people but it comes down to their ignorance..I fully understand sunni Islam, yet most sunnis dont even know what shia Islam is about..

I really dont understand why we would get called non Muslims for believing in ahlulbayt (a.s), the family of Prophet Muhammed (s.a.a.w)!

I don't hate the shia's but almost all the shia's I met in my life live on a different planet....mostly their concept of tawheed and idea of marriage (mutaa) is extremely errored....I also met a Shia friend who told me that women were told not to wear hijab in their Shia mosques.... I always found the the Shia branch to be the greatest treadgy to happen in islam...

@saberobad What do you mean "practice" it? It is not some type of game or ritual... It is just a way of showing condolences to our Imam.

Anyways, before the Holy Prophet passed away he kissed the neck of Imam Hussain and cried because he knew that he was going to be martyred.

I think the whole thing is the issue with the friends of the Prophet, since Sunnis see them as the perfect examples of true muslims and Shias hate them. In all actuality there are so many different kinds of Shias that I've met that I can't seem to get proper idea of what Shia is anymore...

@saberobad Why do people cry when they are sad ? Latom (hitting your chest or head ) is just evolved reaction , more than crying , crying became inefficient and our reaction went natural to Latom since we started the memorials. It is not that we do not recognize other Prophets' & Imams' sacrifices, it is that the tragedy that occurred in Karbala towards Imam Hussain(A.S), his family& companions, was a tragedy like no other.
