In this video I show a battle mode run with the soldier(!) in the new version of Sango Fighter (released 2011-02-15 by Super Fighter Team). The difficulty level was set to "high", and my primary aim was to win all rounds, secondary aim was to get a high score (got only 302600 though). This game is freeware and can be downloaded from http://www.sangofighter.com .

Compared to the original version(s), this has mostly gotten more polish unrelated to gameplay: setup.exe replaced with more choices in the settings (including language selection between English, Chinese and Japanese (new)), better English translations, ESC and F1 keys more responsive, etc. The greatest change to the gameplay is that the super meter does not go down at all when you get hit (before it got halved). Because of that, super moves are used more often, which is maybe a good thing, because they were used so rarely before (especially by enemies). The story mode now starts with an extra battle, the battle against Xiahou Yuan from the story mode of the old shareware version. Moreover, the soldier is now choosable as a secret character in the battle mode (type "cutlet" in the character selection screen.) I must admit I've wanted to play as the soldier since I was kid :) A long list of changes can be found at http://www.sangofighter.com/history.htm .

It is very difficult to fight with the soldier, because
1) He has only 2 special moves. He has no shooting move or even throwing move. Therefore a filled super bar is also useless.
2) All his moves (except for the 2 special moves) do very little damage.
I think I needed about 50 tries to win all rounds in the battle mode.

In the original version, soldiers got damaged differently by certain moves, e.g. many Guan Yu's moves did less damage on soldiers, while Zhao Yun's and Huang Zong's shooting moves did extra damage. The damage table of the soldier is the same in this new version. Unfortunately, that means that moves that did 0 damage on the soldier, still do that in this version. All the 0-dmg moves do not belong to the enemy generals though: the second kick of Huang Jong's double kick doesn't do any damage (it didn't do before either). At least Lü Bu and Xu Huang have several 0-dmg moves, which usually do 1 dmg when blocked though :D

The game was run in DOSBox 0.73 (core=normal, cycles=6000, sbtype=sbpro2). I uploaded the original video clip recorded with DOSBox.
