I love the restoration of the greatest rifle ever manufactured, the M1 Garand. This is one of my babies; this is my fully restored WWII era M1-E8 Garand sniper rifle. (M81 2.5x scope on a Springfield Armory mount, with cross-hairs. Standardized for snipers in September 1944) Everything on this rifle is authentic with the exception of the check piece and sling, which are reproductions. The M1E8 was designated the M1D and adopted as a "substitute standard" in September 1944. Virtually no M1Ds were produced during W.W.II. Since all M1Ds (with the exception of the tool room models) fall into the category of "rebuilds" there is no serial number range generally associated with this version of the M1 sniper rifle.

  • did they issue a m1 grarand as a sniper rifle toward the end of ww2? I thought they didnt issue m1 snipers till the korean and vietnam war.

  • @cobra96svt570 The M1-C was issued near the end of WW-II, and the M1-D was in the process of being issued at the time the war ended, so they (the M1-D) never saw WW-II service.

  • is this rifle better than the mosin nagant in your other vid

  • @thebestfisherman1 Hard to say, if they were both with the standard issued scopes, Id go with the 91.30, other than that, this rifle is far better.

  • Why are you using the uncut -9 rod? it is worth $400 by it's self. There are plenty of later rods if you insist on shooting.

  • @Wireman134 I use the uncut rod for the photos, I swap it out when I shoot it. Thanks though.

  • @darrylhaynes Well you are sick in the head then if you seek out gun videos on youtube. You should love the guns that shot your dumb self because neither of them killed you.

  • @mag30th Yup, Im a gut nut, and you are a spammer. I see the other comment you post on other sites, you are the sicko...

  • @capnhands More likely a dead Vietnamese soldier. Sniper rifles are one of those unique military weapons that are so expensive and complicated to produce that when the military DOES make them, they make them last as long as possible, which meant keeping the 1903A4 and M1c in service until they just couldn't find an excuse to keep them around any longer. Most of these old warhorses were issued late in Korea or early to middle of 'Nam.

  • thats one dead North Korean or Communist Chinese soldier

  • @Rocktecho Lol all of your questions will be answered if you just watch the video.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but dont those rifles have a clip that ejects out the top when it's run out of ammo? Wouldn't the scope get it the way?

  • @cobra96svt570 had to i saw john wayne in a ww2 show with one, john wayne wouldn't lie

  • Where is the love button? >:I

  • haha nice distance

  • @theroyalgrapefruit Early military snipers (the Garand, 1903A4, 91/30, and even the 98k) tended to use relatively low power scopes (generally between 2.5x and 4x) because the art of sniping was still relatively young, and most shots were made within 300-400 meters, which didn't require any more powerful magnification. Also, scopes were a relatively new idea, and were still very expensive to produce, so really there was no incentive to make bigger, more powerful ones.
