Because many of the photos they are stitching together are taken with a variety of different cameras, all set to different focal lengths and other particular settings.

The 3D result would require a lot of manual clean up, when it's simply quicker to make the geometry by hand in some cases :)

why doesnt Google integrate this into its Earth app and use an algorithm to create true 3D buildings that are true to every angle, so it actually looks like you are travelling in real life
