One major problem I am confronted with at my Chicago Cosmetic Dentistry practice is people dealing with snoring. It may seem harmless enough however, it may be a red flag for a more serious problem called sleep apnea. This can cause heart attaches or strokes. Snoring occurs when the tongue falls to the back of the throat forcing air through a small opening. Sleep apnea occurs when the airway is completely blocked.

To solve this problem with a 96% success rate, I make my patients a TAP appliance which holds the lower jaw downward and forward, this prevents the airway from collapsing. Impressions of a patients mouth are sent to the lab to fabricate the TAP appliance. A TAP appliance is similar to an athletic mouth guard. Its very comfortable and I wear one every night.
