Sarah Anderson, of the WVU Law Brasilian Study Abroad Program introduces Rocinha, the largest Favela in Brasil. Rocinha is home to almost 200,000 occupants and is located on a steep hillside in the south zone of Rio about one kilometer from the beach. WVU students traveled via motorcycle to the top of the Favela and walked through its central streets visiting bakeries, art galleries, day car centers, and even passing by a small urban school.
