The story is Riverside, afraid the public was going to be scared or frightened by the "weird High Priest of Bop" decided to have him play Ellington and standards on his first 2 albums so the public could ease on in. Of course, the standards album led into 3 of the greatest albums ever made: Brilliant Corners, Thelonious Himself, and Monk's Music. Monk added so much beauty to this world.

the dissonance adds a realism to the piece that equals real life. everything is sweet and sour. i can't listen to "memories of you" without choking up. his playing just kills me.
