In the weird and wonderful supercinematic world of Canadian cult filmmaker Guy Maddin, personal memory collides with movie lore for a radical sensory overload. This eerie excursion into the Gothic recesses of Maddin's mad, imaginary childhood is a silent, black-and-white comic science-fiction nightmare set in a lighthouse on grim Notch island, where fictional protagonist Guy Maddin was raised by an ironfisted, puritanical mother. Originally mounted as a theatrical event (accompanied by live orchestra, Foley artists, and assorted narrators), Brand Upon the Brain! is an irreverant, delirious trip into the mind of one of current cinema's true eccentrics

  • This movie has it all! Cannabalisim!! Incest!! Devil Worship!!

Lesbianisim!! Full Frontal Nudity!! Transvestisisim!! And a better movie score than Rocky Horror!!

  • @TheCrayonBird I also appreciate silent films but when you intentionally copy their techniques in an era when films such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Faust & Nosferatu are readily available to view in high quality prints it renders the genre useless. We've already seen the masterpieces from the silent era. Guy Maddin structures his films as if they were shot in 1920. Philippe Garrel's Le révélateur is a good example of how post silent film-making should be directed.

  • @Misterioso I dont know. I really love silent movies and I respect the love of Maddin. I think that if the peeps begin to just watch 3d movies, and I became a director, I should not make a movie in 3d. Its look like the bw cinematography: a bunch of directors has made his movies by this way, and still beautiful. Sorry for the fucking bag english.

  • Mr. Maddin has sacrificed originality by rehashing silent films. Instead of creating something that surpasses the contemporary medium he continues to recycle. His films play like amateur hour and he is perhaps the most overrated director currently working. How he continues to fool everyone I will never know.

  • What the trailer fails to show is that this film is really quite touching. Guy Maddin always is able to be quirky and yet lay his heart out on the table at the same time. He is a beautiful director.

  • such a good film.

  • Truth be told, these are some of the movies. Plus it's black and white
