Built for the Wiscontrepreneur 100-Hour Challenge of 2011.
The Psychonautic Helmet expands human consciousness by allowing users to experience self-generated visualizations, deep relaxation, and meditation. It is a safe alternative to psychedelic hallucinogens in users who are not prone to optically-triggered seizures.
The Psychonautic Helmet is an apparatus affixed to the head which immerses the user in a dazzling, relaxed, hallucinogenic state through the application of a carefully programmed 14 minute light and sound sequence. Built from a riot helmet, high intensity LED packs pulse at 2.2, 6.0, 11.1, and 14.4Hz, in order to trigger delta, theta, alpha, and beta waves in the brain. Synchronized stereo audio stimulation contributes to the hypnotic state.
The light and sound brainwave patterns are based on open-source microcontroller code written by Chris Sparnicht. Also thanks to Chris Meyer and the Sector67 crew for their assistance building and testing the helmet. All interviewes featured in the video are the actual experiences of users (not the builder) and were not scripted.
Do the effects of this helmet have a connection to those used in the Ganzfeld experiment?

So, how much did it cost to build?
