@DougsWife100 Wayne County Hospital was behind Eloise on Merriman Rd. my Daughter was born there in 1981. Wayne County Hospital was torn down. I believe Oakwood handles the medical records. 734.727.7064. Good Luck

As a fact,I had quite a personal tour of 'MI psych-hospitals" My 1st was at a private hospital for adolescents w/ working-class folks w/BC/BS,that ended after the insurance did.As ward of the court, spent a yr @ Yorkwoods for adolescents directly across from Ypsi.Reg.Psy.Hosp. After I got healed, went to college @ EMU,couldn't afford so I joined US Army for GI bill.Got head injury in 1st Gulf, 100% S-C disabled, been to VA psych hosp Battle creek 2x's, same size as Eloise, more $.

@DougsWife100 You were probably born there because your parents didn't have a lot of money. Eloise was a poorhouse/hospital which was state funded. Their services were free. It was a poorhouse / hospital offering emergency and medical services as well as a place to stay for the poor and penniless. You can go to the open building and you should be able to obtain records of your birth with no problems and that should have your parents name(s) on them. Good Luck!!

Annie Cohen, one many patients of Eloise, was not buried on the hospital grounds but buried by a family member in a Jewish cementary. Much later her decendents put the gravestone at her burial spot.

@jaydogdaddy Yes, that's why I wrote that she was one of the few buried with dignity. Are you friend, family or just read the book? I'm looking for info that is more than what is in the book is why I'm asking.
