In this episode we take a look at how to make some kick ass looking muzzle flares so you can go all Freddie Wong with your favourite open source software Blender.

Blender Version: 2.59
Addons Used: Rotobezier and Import Images As Planes.

A portion of this video highlights using a technique that was shamefully pilfered from Andrew Price over at Blenderguru.com so here's the link to his awesome tutorial:

Blender Guru is a great site for Blender tutorials so if you've not checked it out yet please do.

  • Please start doing these again there very helpful

  • @redbook5544332211 I am working on 3 episodes at the moment, should have one out next week.

  • Really great stuff. I like the pace. It's not too fast but its not so slow that it would put off people used to the software. I just started playing with blender as a movie editor today and while I can see it taking a bit of time to get used to it I've liked what I've seen so far.

I don't suppose you could let me know what export settings you recommend for rendering out footage?

  • @rorkimaru For Youtube I render to H264 and set the Bitrate to 8500, well that's what I used for Episode 2 and will from now on.

  • Quick Question.

can you use a mix node instead of a alpha over node?

  • @HFdemofilms yeah you can if you want but it's rendered with an alpha channel so there's no need.
