  • As Oudler says, few of us are bashing divination (at least not here). The problem is with the misrepresentation of history.

I would also say that most people are unaware of tarot's origin as a game. And while you say 'they were used to play games', I would point out that they ARE STILL so used throughout most of Europe. It's just us English speakers who haven't figured that out yet.

ps. divination is about 200 years old - the games are 350. They don't go back an equally long time at all.

  • The only real problem with divinatory Tarot is that most people wrongly assume that that one part of Tarot is the whole of it. That view of Tarot has become dominant to the point where it is unhealthful because it skews the perceptions we have of the playing cards and pastimes of other cultures. I don't wish for divination to go away but there should be more balance in how Tarot cards are presented.

  • @zofoblu French Tarot, Swiss Troccas and Troggu. Austrian Tarock, Danish Tarok, Bolognese Tarocchino.

  • @DailyTarotReader Pay no heed to those who speak on the tarot with no knowledge of the rota.

How could they know the tarot, if all they know is the surface? Scraping together what little meaning they can find and then by clinging adamantly to their ignorance, they remain there, telling all of what little they know. How many heads does the hydra need?

  • @dukeofzhou Great post! As you indicate divination is much older than 200 years. Actually far older than 2000 years! In the book of Genesis Joseph is said to have practiced a few different forms of divination. He interpreted dreams and also practiced a form of hydromancy. And as many children will remember from their Sunday school lessons Joseph was and still is honored by the Jewish people as a great patriarch; a patriarch who was skilled in at least 2 forms of divination!

  • what games do they still play with the tarot?

  • i made a music video to one of my songs that shows an older version of reading the cards like solitaire incorperating the trick taking rule of the fool Bang your head god of funk

  • @ANIideas Divination is 200 years old?

Listen to how 'matter' of fact the in-formation in this video is presented. Is each paid according to the work he has done?

Harmony or discord, a simple choice, comfort or discomfort, thought to a fool only the familiar is home.

Alas all those poor souls who ventured out into the dark and cold, pity them, they found themselves alone.

  • Rev. Lewis, I really enjoyed parts one through six [can't find anymore] & I certainly learned a lot of new info. The history was interesting and concise. Thank you for your posts.

  • Why is a pilgrim telling me about this?
