advice and crit welcome!!
please read before commenting!

ok so i got ellie (irish draught X thoroughbred) very cheap and i saw a huge personality and talent shining through the mud and obesity!!
i want to enter her into small jumping classes and working hunter classes in 2009. so here we are jumping a few small jumps. im really proud of her because she kept e great rhythm and she would normally rush the jump and chuck her head. any advice on further steadying her and prevent a fight for her head in our approach?? so my position wasnt great but i was concentrating on being quiet rather than overriding, this is because i wanted to build up her confidence as much as possible. also, ive only had 4 official riding lessons in my life and they were wen i was about 9 so i think im doing ok so far!! she has serious scope and i know shell go far in the future!! ill keep you updated!

  • when your riding pick your hands up dont rest them on your horses neck or saddle and dont lean to far forward, you will have more control of the horse this way.

  • thankyou! i totally agree with you about the hands.. i need 2 work on them. i think i do it because she often bucks and rears/bolts so i feel more secure?! But about the leaning forward, i dont normally do that but at the moment, shes extremely difficult to sit deep to as she is quite springy, however she is alot better and im working on her and me!

  • Brill i think she is quiet a star she's goes over the jumps smoothly which helps you go with her rhythem well done !

  • thankyou!!!! yes i tried to gather a nice rhythm towards the jump because she normally rushes into it and gets too deep in the jump so its abit of a catleap!! xxxx
