Only a handful of people had seen the specimen since its arrival; it was rumored that only two had tasted it. It was found in South America by a French Voyage of Discovery -- and brought back to Paris for Napoleon and Josephine. Perfect examples were then cultivated in Josephine's exotic botanical garden at the Chateau Malmaison, and the greatest botanical artist in history, Pierre Joseph Redoute, was commissioned to paint this one, the most perfect pineapple of all. See the first-ever reproduction of the original watercolor at DiscoveryEditions.com/Pineapple.
