Video interview with Dr. Cindy Wolff,
Professor at Chico State University, Chico CA
Biological Sciences Department - Nutrition and Food Science Program, and
Director of Sierra Cascade Nutrition and Activity Consortium.

In this video interview she talks of recent survey studies she and her students have conducted in surrounding school districts and their implications.

Gridley School District: 52% were above the healthy weight for their age.
Of the Hispanic kids, 25% were positive for a risk factor for diabetes.
Average age for those children was 10.

Put that together and you have a time bomb!

Thermalito School District: Middle School Kids:
Statistics were down to the percent were the same.
The difference was their ethnicity - largely Hmong or Asian.
Being Asian did not protect these children at all.

They then went into a private school with a higher income.
The kids were all Caucasian.
The overweight rate was the same.

They then studied a charter school.
two thirds of the kids were Native American.
The rates were higher.

It is a big - bad problem.
