This song isn't about weed. It's about procrastination. "A certain shade shade of green" is referring to the color that represents "Go" (like a green traffic light). That's why he says "I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate. What are you waiting for, a certain shade of green?"
As in
Do you need some kind of special sign to move forward with your life?
If anything, this song is against marijuana considering how lazy it makes people.
