2.4L Twin Cam Knock

@spazbeast Nothing wrong with GM, just the 2.4 wasn't their most reliable engine. If you think foreign is any better, pay attention to the cars left on the side of highways. Most are honda, toyota, nissan, or vw. Relatively few ford, gm, or chrysler corp cars abandoned.
I've found most people are very forgiving when foreign cars have problems... even chronic ones. But as soon as a domestic has any issue whatsoever, people begin damning them up and down.

I have 2 different 2.4 liter twin cam engines one in a 99 olds alero which i have driven for the last decade and put over 90,000 miles on it without any problems what so ever. The key here is mantenance and of course if you lean on these engines they will go. I was so impressed with the relability of the 2.4 liter i purchased a 99 sunfire convertible with real low miles on it and expect to have many years of use from the car.

next one get rid of the balance shafts they put too much stress on the bottom end that is why they love to die.

Es el kit de distribucion hay que ponerlo nuevo y origuinal y tal vez rectificar la caveza suerte.

most failures on these engines are the result of neglected routine maintenance and motor abuse

@spazbeast What a douche, $200? That's retarded, hell I would have bought it for $400, fixed it then sold it back for $1800. Tell that guy you sold it to to take it up the ass. :D

rod!!!!
yea it could be the cams but im on my third 2.4 and everytime its the oil pump that fails and takes out the #3 bearing exept the first engine it was a 4 bearings that spun but i had drove it 40 miles with it knocking. if u put your hand over that cylinder when its running u can fell it knocking in the cylinder thats spun the bearing

@WC09PU13 I think it was the 3rd one. My oil pressure never was that great. if I idled for a long period of time I would get little ticks until I got the RPM's back up.

that was a rod knock the sound goes up in to the head on these motors trust me i had to rebuild mine cavy z24 2.4l (ld9) they easy spin the 3# if the oil is "alittle" low...unless you do the 2,3l quad4 oil pump conv. also known as the balance shaft delete

@jamdread I wont be doing any conversions on that car, Its long gone now. I sold it for 200, and I warned the buyer of what had happened. But now he wants his money back. After almost a year.

sounds like you threw a rod

It sounds like it. I took it apart, and the knock was actually coming from the cam. Sold it afterwards and bought an Oldsmobile Ciera. I've really had about enough of GM. After this olds, im moving to foreign.
