I wouldn't deny the fact that infrastructure was built by Howard, but just not nearly enough in my view. Adelaide - great city! Each parties has its flaws, I agree, but you would have to agree that the Liberal Party aren't exactly in great shape at the moment, which, BTW, isn't great for democracy - we need strong opposition! I'm an ALP man but I respect the role of the Greens and certain senators - like your very own Nick Xenaphon - a definite man of wisdom! As for Greg Fielding - oh dear...

Actually, alot of infrastructure was bulit under Howard. Adelaide Airport, the Southern Expressway in SA, the new Adelaide ship dock, just to mention a few in South Australia (I lived there). So, he did not neglect the concept of infrastructure. But I must say I agree with your statement about what good is money in the bank when you don't spend it. Both parties are fundamentally flawed, in my opinon..

I honestly don't know - treasury seems to think that the stimulus handouts made a difference - but I must say I am happier to see subsequent stimulus packages being directed towards infrastructure, which was really so sorely neglected by Howard. I Most people will struggle to say what the hell was done with all of those massive surpluses. What good is money sitting in a bank account. Investors spend money on shares - governments need to spend on infrastructure. Thank god Rudd is doing something!

Effectively? Effectively? Do you honestly think that people using their cash handouts on their mortgages is effective?
30 per cent of the recipients spent the cash on mortgages! that does not stimulate the economy! And because of this huge deficit, in years to come we'll have cataclysmically high interest rates... and not to mention high taxes. It seems to me like a temorary shield against the economic downturn. Rudd doesn't do what's best for the nation, he does what's going to win him votes.

I appologise for that mistake. The global recession is a serious Australian economic danger aswell, though. I'm not saying it's Australia's fault, but I can suggest that it is the most serious economic downturn in modern Australian history. And that's correct. I did not blame the recession on Australia.

the reserve bank has lowered interest rates in order to stimulate the economy. why? because unemployment is rising. the governments job is to balance the twin evils of unemployment and inflation.
when the economy is running normally, government spending affets inflation. that is why interest rates when so high under hawke - because the reserve bank punished home owners by raising interest rates to cut their spending when it should have been the government doing that.

Coulda, woulda, wasn't - I think that the government's response is a little more complex than can be discussed here on Youtube. Do you henstly think that the Howard government would have responded to the call to stimulate the economy as effectively as the Rudd government. "No, no, no, we can't spend any many, we must sit on it and save it for an emergency...oh, hang on - THIS IS AN EMERGENCY - of Global proportions! You think our deficit is big? Don't look at Japan, you may have a heart attack!
Oh how sweet it was to see Jackie Kelly's husband Gary Clark fined $1100 plus legals for his role in the fake Labor pamphlets, which reinforces my point - what goes around, comes around...it's called Karma pal - it has a way of balancing things out ;-)
