For Colored Girls - Girl in Blue (abortion poem)

My sister performing as the woman in blue in 2006 when she was 7 years old. This poem exposes the shame and stigma put upon unwed women when they become pregnant. Although she memorized it on her own without knowing exactly what it meant, 7 is not too young to start arming your daughters against the male-dominated society , with the knowledge to make good decisions, and with the values of self-respect, pride, and godliness.

I have no idea why the videographer, my other sister, pinched her to make her say ouch when her performance was already flawless!

This is inappropriate. She should be reciting Mother Goose, not Abortion poems. Wow, what were you thinking teaching a child this poem!

@blkbull74 you obviously have no children if you think a 7 year old is interested in mother goose. it is never too young to begin teaching a child about right and wrong, in our case we tell her this girl is wrong for doing what she did and she should have talked to god and her mother if she made a mistake. children know a lot more than you think, especially through tv and music and school so you need to bring up topics to them before someone else does in the wrong way.

@blkbull74 of course she doesnt know what exactly sex is or whats involved but kids are going to hear the words sex, abortion,&other words no matter how hard you try 2shelter them. teaching them general age-appropriate terms&general morals is important especially for children with disabilities, who have lower self esteem. people making women feel ashamed&hushing the subject of our bodies and pregnancy is why there are so many back ally/ abortions now! 1 in 3 women have abortions! not my sister!

i teared up a lil. it just made me think of how much younger and younger girls are getting pregnant and getting abortions. i know 7 is extreme and im sure no 7 year old are getting abortions but just imagine. its so upsetting really.

@vengeanceofeden Children may be having sex earlier today, but typically not at the age of seven (except for the case of rape, God forbid). For me, it wouldn't be appropriate to mention or have a conversation with a seven-year-old child about sex....that would be taking away from their innocense.

@blkbull74 Though it may seem that this is inappropriate for someone her age,children nowadays are having sex earlier than probably we all were.therefore now kids need to actually know ahead of time about this stuff unfortunate as it seems to us.

@kianna621 Actually some people use birth control too. But birth control is only 99% - 98% effective. Sex is not just to reproduce, either. People do it for their pleasures, too.

@kianna621 No YOU don't get it. You have no sources to match your argument. You quickly assume we were ''put on this Earth for a reason''. It's the woman's right to not have the baby if she doesn't want it. Say the mother is not financially stable. Would you rather have a kid suffer through those circumstances? Say she's just a teenager. I think she would rather go to school than drop out. If I'm the mother, I'm going to take the better route for myself.
