Democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi walks free after 15 years of house arrest

Reports are coming in that Myanmar's pro-democracy leader has been released from house arrest. She's been in detention for 15 of the last 21 years - the arrest drew widespread international condemnation. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate had said she would not accept the release if conditions are imposed which would exclude her from politics. Aung San Suu Kyi has become a symbol of the struggle to rid the country of decades of military rule.

Aung San Suu Kyi's release is major victory for millions of oppressed and hopeless people, and is something that the ENTIRE world should be celebrating (unless you're Than Shwe, which i don't think any of you are)... If the Military stepped back and allowed groups of politicians to take over complete control and holdings of the land, then what?

๑-BIG BANKS would move in and buy the leaders of the political parties, for next to nothing.

๒-Debt would be the country's biggest problem and all the wealth would leave the country.

๓-If people revolted against the BIG BANK efforts, foreign Army's would invade.

Her people have suffered under military for the past fifty years, for God's sake! She has made immense personal sacrifices in the name of democracy. She has won the Nobel Peace Prize and countless other awards for her struggle - she and her party won 80% of the vote in the country's last FREE ELECTIONS yet the military refused to hand over power!
