  • Sunny gets testy if she isn't cover over night for at least 13 to 14 hours. If she doesn't go to bed until 8pm I don't uncover her until 10 am. Some may thing that is not nice, but it makes a difference in her attutude. Even if she is talking or moving around in her cage, she doesn't get uncovered until she has had at least 13 hours of dark. I also never give her opportunity to bite me. If she is acting like she is going to bite when I approach...I get a stick for her to step up on.

  • A vet visit may be the thing. He may be in pain with something wrong, but that is a guess. I don't know how long hormonal behavior lasts nor how many times a year it happens. But he sounds like the right age for it. Has he been hormonal before?

  • at one of your responses to my vid of putting the birds to bed and you said,"This is great, Sunny won't let me scratch her very often." Bobby used to let me preen him all of the time and I was never afraid of him biting me & he talked to himself alot too. Now it's the total opposite. Does Sunny scream when you are out of the room? Also, is her only cage downstairs as in the vid where she is talking or does she also have a sleep cage? I'm not giving up on him. Posting vids of him screaming 2.

  • I may have replied to the wrong message so read below my reply below. LOL! But learning amazon body language is key to knowing how they are feeling and what they are telling you. Wing clipping also improves the attitude of the birds. Sunny gets an attutude as her ability to fly improves as her wings grow back out. We like her to fly in the house, but if she gets "bossy" we get them trimmed and out sweet zon is back.

  • That is frustrating, I know. Sunny is a lovely Zon! Check out my amature vids of my DYH and others. If you have any advice I'd be more than open to suggestions! Lori

  • HI, Lori,

I have looked at your vids and love them. What advice are you looking for. What is the problem?

  • Thanks for all of the good advice. Boy, I never noticed that 500 characters weren't enough until now! haha

I just uploaded the other vids. I'll post more updates to let you know how I fare. Lori

  • You hit the nail on the head on two things that I forgot to mention! I HAVEN'T had his wings clipped for some time and that will be done tomorrow. I learned that with my female parrotlet too! The other one is that I never had to stick train him but I think Chet (my friend) is going to suggest it. He has three Zons and they're all stick trained. I should have done it sooner. I have read and know that all parrots need at least 12 hours of darkness so it isn't cruel, it's a necessity.

  • Hi,

I think at the time I was asking for advice on videoing! ;) But your response comes at a strange time because my DYH, Bobby, has been biting and screaming since before Christmas. (Way too long for it to be "hormonal") I've had him for six years which is hard to believe (he's 9 now) and he's never been this "bad" before. I have a fellow birdclub member coming over next week to see if he can help me figure out why it's been escalating and how to fix it. I just looked back at-to be cont.

  • Sorry for not getting back to you. I didn't get a notice of this comment. I had Tuki over 2 years before I sold him. He is much happier now with other Brotos.
